Happiness

What makes me happy? You don’t have to ask me twice to get an answer. I’ve got a list things to answer that question. Instead of answering them here, I will just list them below.

1. Traveling- Nothing makes me happier than a quick and spontaneous trip into the unknown.

2. My friends- Whenever we are hanging out we always have a laugh. We all know how to crack jokes and have a good time.

3. Music- It’s amazing how a good tune can put me in a happy mood.

4. Pinterest- What’s better than an online site where you can find the clothes/house/food you wish you could have?

5. Photography- I have a different outlook on life than what most people have. That’s why I like taking what I see and translating it in a way others can understand.

I believe you can really get to know a person by what makes them happy, so hopefully you know me a little better now. Now I want to know something about you. What makes you happy?

Until next time…

Reflecting

My uncle and me when I was little.

I can remember exactly what I was doing this day 2 years ago. It was New Years Eve 2011 and I was at home with my family. My mom’s phone rang and it was my grandpa calling. He told my mom to hand the phone to my dad, saying that it was important. My dad took the phone and started to talk to my grandpa. There was a look of worry that flashed across his face. Whatever my grandpa was calling for must have been important.

I remember my dad saying, “Call me back when you know for sure.” He hung up the phone and just sat there. My mom started asking what was wrong and if someone got hurt. All my dad would say is, “I’m not saying anything until I know for sure.” Then the phone rang again and my dad picked it up.

At this point I knew something terrible had happened but I didn’t want to know. While my dad got up and went into his room to talk on the phone, I got up to leave the room for a moment to calm myself down. When I came back into the room I could hear my mom sobbing in her bedroom along with my dad. I started crying not even knowing what happened. My little brother came up to me crying and said, “Uncle Matt killed himself.”

I broke down in tears, shaking from the news. My brother and I made our way into my mom and dad’s room and my dad confirmed the news. I remember seeing my dad holding my mom in his arms while she cried. My uncle Matt was her little brother and he had just spent Christmas with us 5 days before. Apparently he had locked himself in the bathroom and lit some charcoal. This caused him to die from carbon dioxide poisoning. The weeks following I had nightmares. There was one where I saw him kill himself in front of me. Harsh I know, but it’s what happened. I don’t have those dreams anymore though.

I miss you Uncle Matt. See you soon.
Happy New Year- Peanut

Schooling

Today I had to order my new textbooks for the spring semester. As much as I am dreading having to go back to class, I actually enjoy learning. I’ve come to realize that there are many people around the world who would give anything to be in my position and to receive a college level education; especially at my young age of 16 years old. That’s why I try my best to excel in my courses and retain the information I’ve learned. To be quite fair though, I am a little excited for my new classes. I’m taking some courses that have really interesting topics, and my best friend and I are taking a course together. Hopefully we won’t get in too much trouble together ;).

To my fellow college goers, cheers to a new semester and to educating ourselves!

Until next time…

Birthday in Heaven

December 22, 2013, is an important date for two reasons. It would have been my dad’s 50th birthday and it marks 11 months since my dad died. This post is going to be special as I share a bit about my dad and the legacy he left.

Meet Kenny Krulish, or as I like to call him, my dad. At work he was known as Captain Kenny, or if you were one of his students you probably called him “Captain”. Yeah, my dad was a firefighter. He basically had done and seen it all while working for St. Johns County Fire Rescue for 24 years. My dad worked in the stations running calls (in fact that’s how he spent his last few years working) but a majority of his career was teaching the new hires. One of his specialties when it came to teaching was making training videos. I guess that’s where I got my love of photography, videoing and editing came from. Don’t worry though, my dad had a life outside of his job and was quite the family man.

When he was at home he was always in family time mode. We would either be heading off to the beach, watching football, or planning our next family vacation. My dad strived to make sure my brother and I had a childhood we would cherish the rest of our lives. He loved to go on last minute adventures with us and stopped at nothing to make sure it was epic. When we lived in a big community, during the summer my dad would invite all the neighborhood kids to come swimming at our house. We would spend all day in the pool playing games and he was right there having fun with us. Then we would all get on our golf cart and go to the park. Yeah, he was the dad with all the cool toys.

All of those things were great, but who was he to me? I mean a dad is supposed to be the most important person in a girl’s life, right? Well for me, he was and still is. Unfortunately I didn’t realize it till after he died, but now I recognize the value I placed on him and how much I needed him. My dad and I were like the same person; we shared so many traits and qualities. I could understand what he was thinking without him having to say anything, and he was the same with me. He always treated me like a daddy’s girl and now I know how much of one I was and still am.

As you have probably figured it out on your own, my dad was a one of kind. Today he would have been 50 years old, and I can only imagine all the jokes I would have teased him with for being so old. So I would like to dedicate this post to you Dad. Hope I am making you proud. Happy 50th birthday in Heaven.

-Love your Kare-Bear.
