Thinking about turning this blog into mostly photography. I would still do some writing from time to time, but it’s easier for me to post pictures than have to write out a long blog post. What do you think? In the meantime enjoy this photo I took the other night.

Children

I recently read an essay by Lynda Barry titled “The Sanctuary of School”. While I was reading the first few paragraphs I was thinking to myself, “What is the purpose of the story she is telling.” Then right at the end of the essay I understood.

Barry was sharing a story from her childhood on how she would look forward to going to school every day. No one really cared or paid any attention to her when she was at home. She would even leave early in the morning to get to school because she knew there were people there who cared for her and she would be to express herself through art classes. It was quite saddening to be honest. She then went on to discuss the fact that art and music programs are being cut from schools more and more every year.

Everything that Barry said about the school system is exactly on point. I have always believed in art, music and sports programs and now they are slowly being removed from the school system as a whole. It’s quite disappointing to think about. As society we teach kids at a young age that they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up. But how does society expect them to discover their talents if we as a country don’t provide them the necessary resources to do so?

Every day that kids walk in and out of schools they possess hid treasures within themselves. A school could have the next Van Gough sitting within the walls but won’t ever know it because they don’t help to bring forth the talent. It seems that all the schools care about are the main courses like math, science, history, and English. If a child’s strengths aren’t in those courses then it isn’t fair. He won’t be able to show what he’s capable of because we’ve placed the value of education on only a few subjects. Each child has a gift and should be able to grow it and show it.

Home -On the home page you can expect to find my blog posts. These are just some posts that I have written up and want to share with you. They range from a wide variety of topics and relate to my life in one way or another. I hope to share my experiences and give you a peek into my world on this page.

About Me -I can’t put my life story into every blog post, so that’s why I have created this page. I also created this page in hopes to give new followers a little bit of information about me and to make it accessible without having to go to my very first post. If you have any questions about my nutty self then this is the page to go to!

Rad Photos -Need a little bit of photography/adventure inspiration? I advise you to click on this tab. On this page you can find photos taken by yours truly. They display my point of view on the world and how I see things in my nutty head. Hopefully you can find some inspiration if you are creatively stuck and don’t know what to do next.

Weekly Tunes -This page is probably my favorite. I love music so much and love discussing it. On here I like to share one song a week; it’s usually a song that I’ve had on replay throughout that week and one that I want to share with you. Feel free to leave suggestions of songs that you think I will like. I’m always open to anything!

Kindness

As I was on the internet the other day, I saw a picture with the quote by Plato that said, “Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” We come into contact with many
people every day. It’s important that we make sure to conduct ourselves in a manner that is not harsh or cruel. I’ve learned that you never really know what a person is going through.

Over the past eleven months since my dad has died, I’ve taken notice how people treat you differently when they find out what situations you are going through. There were times when I would be out shopping and someone I just met would say something stupid and careless. I would respond with, “Well my dad recently died so I apologize if I’m not paying full attention.” Talk about getting a slap in the face. After the shock hits them, people usually responds with “I’m so sorry” or “I didn’t know.” From then on they would be much careful with what they would say.

I myself have learned to be more patient with people. Granted it isn’t an easy task but I try my best. One night my brother, my mom and I were at dinner at a restaurant. Our waitress was doing an awful job and it just didn’t seem like her mind was present. My mom started to criticize the situation and I told her, “Well you never know what she might be going through at home. Just like she doesn’t know what we are having to go through.” My mom looked at me with realization as to what I had said, and from that moment on she was much more careful with what she said that night.

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”, whoever said that was completely wrong. Words can kill someone. People commit suicide every day because of verbal abuse. It shows the importance of our words and the pain they can cause. You never know what demons a person is dealing with in his or her mind.I make it a point to say hello to as many people as I can that walk by me every day; even just a smile can help someone.
